As parents, the amount of time we spend thinking about nurturing our little humans isn’t easily measured. It isn’t accurately counted in minutes but more so in the growing pile of sleepers that are too small that we can’t bring ourselves to put away just yet. We nurture their spirits with encouraging words as they gain more independence and acquire new skills. We nurture their minds with their favorite songs and tiny board books read at a whisper before bedtime.

But before your tiny babies become toddlers refusing the food that was their favorite just last week, there’s another fleeting season of nurturing that’s also hard to measure. As both a momma and baby photographer in Hattiesburg, these are some of my favorite moments to document for you.

Just You and Baby

During these early days the times when it’s two of you can be some of the most sacred as a mother. While I know not everyone is able to or chooses to breastfeed, as a momma who did, these tender moments hold an extra special space in my heart. It’s just one of the many reasons I love when families ask me to document this season for them.

During these moments, I try to focus on all the details I miss about nursing. I loved the way this sweet boy played with mom’s necklace and how he snuggled into her in different positions. The over-the-shoulder shot that gives mom’s perspective even made me tear up a little behind the camera. How beautiful are his curious big blue eyes? This sweet momma wasn’t sure she could make it this long breastfeeding, but I’m super proud of her for how she persevered and I loved getting to encourage her along the way. It was a joy celebrating breastfeeding as part of this little guy’s milestone session and the bond these two share. It has been a joy to watch Remi grow this year.

For a small window of time, these little ones present us with daily reminders to slow down and savor the little moments along the way. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to preserve a handful of those precious memories for you.
